This is an offering for a vintage early 1900's stringed musical instrument called a Zither. I do not know a lot about it, but will try my best to describe it as accurately as possible. Marked "No. 2, Made in USA" on center label, this instrument comes in what appears to be its original box (which is a bit rough, but all intact). Has 31 string pegs, is missing two of its strings. Beautifully decorated with gold gilt, scrollwork and ornamentation, also has patriotic eagle, and is marked "Patented May 29, 1894". Made of wood, measures 20" long, 11" across, and 1 1/2" deep. In "as found" condition, complete with wire music holder and tuning key! Also has a few pieces of sheet music with it, which includes a Saenger List of Music with Index, three beginner charts (Nearer My God to Thee, Home Sweet Home, and Last Rose of Summer), list of Zither Music published by Johann Schick, and "Self Instructor" booklet (printed in English and German) which contains "Johnnie Jones and His Sister Sue", "Lullaby From Erminie", "Old Oaken Bucket", "Annie Laurie" and more! There is some visible rusting on some of the strings, and signs of separation along the top and bottom of the insrument itself where the wood has been joined together (see photo #8 & 9). There are several nails in the back of the piece (see photos), and I do not know which are original. There is one place on the back where the wood has been split slightly by one of the nails along the edge (see photo #12), but the body is solid, and little to no warping of the wood is visible. Please take time to view the photos, as they are the best indication of its current condition! This item will sell with NO RESERVE to the highest bidder! Great vintage collectible piece for decoration or restoration! I do not know the history, but will try to answer any questions as promptly and honestly as possible.
Please note, most of the items I sell are vintage or collectible, NOT NEW. Therefore, I sell them "as is", but I try to describe each item in detail as to its condition, and I do not use stock photos for any of my items, as they would not give a true picture.
