These fantastic boxes come out of an old wood turning mill that was established in the 1880s in Kingfield, Maine.  All of these hard wood boxes feature rope bale handles, and have been dated around 100 years old—we think that the ages vary from box to box, about 20 years either way, but they have all been around for a long time. Originally utilized to transfer woodturnings from one part of the mill to another, the boxes have wooden runners to aid in sliding and moving (seen in photo as the top of the coffee table).  We are not sure what kind of wood the boxes are made out of, but it is a hard wood, and we think that they are most likely maple or birch, as these are very prevalent in the Northern/Central Maine area.  The photos are representative of what we have, but these are the boxes in our home!!  However, all of the boxes we are selling are in similar condition, and all have their own characteristics that make them unique.  For example, one of our boxes has a splatter of blue paint on it (that we are quite fond of), but we haven’t seen any others with a similar splatter!  All boxes will have nicks and dings, due to their age, but as we all know, that’s what gives them character!  In addition to their distinctive and wonderful “flaws “, these boxes have their original wooden runners, galvanized metal reinforcements, and great bale (rope) handles.  The coffee table effect is a result of turning the box upside down.  Just incase you are confused—there are no lids!! We have sold over 100 of these boxes, and there has been an excellent response to them.  Many of our customers come back for seconds. This is a must for the true devotee of the primitive and folky aesthetic.  We have heard of many imaginative ways to use these boxes, including as a wine rack, TV stand, coffee table, excellent & attractive wood storage box for the fire, mud room shoe storage w/ a second box as a matching bench, planter outdoors for your lovely flowers (this looks really great!).  The boxes were all hand made, so they vary a little in size, but all measure roughly 34 inches long by 22 inches wide, and 21 inches tall.  Please email with any and all questions! Enjoy the auction!!  SHIPPING: $28.00 TO US Lower 48 customers only. Discounts on shipping for two or more boxes: $15 per additional box. SHIPPING TIMEFRAME IS USUALLY 5-10 BUSINESS DAYS. THANKS!!
