This is a magnificent porcelain bowl from RS Prussia. It is marked with the Reinhold Schlegelmilch (RS Prussia) star and wreath in red and green, which dates the bowl between 1880 and 1917. It was purchased at an estate sale in White Oak, Virginia, and is in perfect condition, without cracks, chips or crazing, and very little wear to the gold trim. The Schlegelmilch factory in Suhl was well-known for its award-winning expertise in producing and decorating extraordinary porcelains, and this is another outstanding example.
The bowl stands on three feet and is 7-3/4 inches across and 3-inches in height. It is two-inches deep, and may have been made for the purpose of floating lilies when they bloom in the Spring. The porcelain is very fine, almost transparent. The ivory-colored background glaze enhances the porcelain by giving it an exquisite, glowing appearance. The bowl is round, but has ten points along the edge that are connected in a swag design. Each swag has a subtle irridescent and textured rim, outlined in gold and decorated with alternating white floral sprays and lilies. The center of the bowl is decorated with two large lilies. All of the flowers are offset with shading in green, turquoise and beige with hints of soft yellow.
This is a beautiful piece to add to your RS Prussia collection.
