Offering a classic Red & White ANTIQUE quilt. The quilt is machine-pieced and
hand-quilted. The pattern is large (~5 1/4") Red and White octagons with contrast triangles forming an octagon inside a square pattern. The quilt is surrounded by a 2 1/4" white boarder followed by a 2 1/4" red border. The backing is solid white. The quilt measures approx. 66" wide by 81" long. It is a thin, lightweight quilt.
I have owned the quilt for 24 years and purchased it for display on the nursery wall. It has been packed away now for about 20 years. I purchased it from a dealer of antique and vintage linens who said it was made in the late-1800s/early-1900s.
The white muslin has yellowed some and the red fabric has faded (more in some areas than others). I have never attempted to clean the quilt while I have owned it. The edges are fraying, there are a number of small holes (I've included pictures of the larger holes). But, overall it is in pretty good condition for an antique of this age and it would still function well as a spread or hanging. The hand-quilting measures about 9-10 spi in horizonal lines spaced 1" apart down the entire length of the quilt. Then they quilted diagonal lines across the horizontal lines, also spaced 1" apart - making ~1" parallelograms quilting throughout. This is a real work of art produced by a true craftswoman and I'm sure this quilt would be cherished by a collector. It needs TLC by someone with more expertise with antique linens than I have.
