A superb quality Antique 19th century dated 1299 Hijra – 1881 A.D. silver mounted Islamic Caucasian sword Kama – Kindjal. DETAILS: A solid silver grip of characteristic shape decorated with a pattern of scrolling foliage and bead work highlighted with gold and niello, in a solid silver scabbard with a wooden insert decorated en suite with the grip beautifully hand chased in low relief and nielloed patterns of foliage highlighted in gold. The inner face of the scabbard is decorated with a nielloed snake, scrolling foliage, and a lobed cartouche incorporating the name signed in Arabic letters in niello "Omar Shehu" and the date 1299 AH. A broad double-edged blade made of gorgeous Damascus steel tapering to a sharp point, cut with slender fullers decorated with a panel inlaid in gold koftgari; most of the hilts and scabbards of the Caucasian kindjals are covered with a thin sheet of silver, with this particular one the scabbard and hilt are made from very thick silver.
