Antique, SQUARE TOPPED, tilt top Mahogany table c. 1930

Offered for auction is a circa 1930’s SQUARE Top, tilt top, Mahogany table, with a Chippendale style slipper, claw foot in VG to Excellent condition. Some of your best Mahogany was made in the thirties during the recession. This was survival time for many US furniture makers and they copied the Chippendale and Queen Anne styles of Colonial America. That is why is the back of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Kathryne Hepburn, etc. movies of this period you will see these pcs. of furniture. It was affordable “class” for anyone still having a secure living. Fads come in and some stay and others pass away. The classics, Chippendale, Hepplewhite, Queen Anne, French Provincial, Mission, etc. like a stoct fluctuate but this fluctuation is in the long run...up.

This is a beautiful table with a veneered Hondorus Mahogany top in exc. condition with no problems. The white you see is just reflected light. The bottom is a solid Mahogany.

There are two things particularly hard to find from this era. The SQUARE TOPPED, tilt top, and the handkerchief table. For every TEN ROUNDTOP tilt tops made, there was one square top, trust me. There is only one thing that would be better and that would be a SQUARE TOP, tilt top, that revolved , as well, and although I’ve seen the round, I’ve never seen a square one that did this.

This is for local pickup as shipping has become prohibitive in cost except for the most expensive pieces. The table measures 42” sq. by 28” high when down, and 22” from leg to leg in width.*  

Should you purchase it, you must pay for it through Pay Pal, a cleared personal check, or cashier’s check before pick-up. If you find it does not meet the criteria as described we will issue you a refund, but it is an act of good faith on your part to pay for it, first. We’ve unfortunately made arrangements for people to pick up items only to have them cancel once and ever twice which is not fair to us. This primitive piece is at 21300 Old York Rd. in Parkton MD 21120 about twenty minutes south of York PA and 20 minutes North of Baltimore just off I-83.
