This little antique piece is made of brass and mother of pearl in the form of a sailing ship. The sail is painted with flowers and says "World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago 1893". A little brass anchor is on a chain and a brass flag flies from the mast. The little figurehead is the head of an owl. Aside from a chip in the mother of pearl boat base, the condition is excellent and everything looks to be original. The painting on the sail is especially bright and intact. One like this is shown on p. 142 of Averil Mathis' book Antique & Collectible Thimbles & Accessories. It measures almost 4" long and 3 5/8" high.
The thimble is sterling silver and has a hand engraved scene around the band showing buildings, a lighthouse and a sailboat. The band is marked with the anchor trademark of Stern Bros. & Co. in New York. It's also marked "Sterling" and "12" (size). The condition is excellent, in round with no holes, repairs or other damage.
I stand behind everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as presented.
