Old Sepia Photo of Trajan’s Column in Rome 1. Rising almost 100 feet and completed in the Second Century AD (113), the Trajan’s Column was built in honor of the Roman emperor Trajan, commemorating his victories in the Dacian Wars. The spiral relief column was constructed by the architect Appolodorus of Damascus. It stands on its original site in the Rome. Built out of 29 blocks of marble, each weighting about 30 tons, it is hollow inside with stairs leading to the top. It has survived many earthquakes.
