This is a family hierloom that celebrated June 14, 1877, the day Pope Pius IX (The Pope from 1847 to 1878) was the Pope the longest. This shadowbox has dark, mysterious SYMBOLS that you never see in a religious icon from the 20th or 21st century. The Cross has symbols like a skull and crossbones, a dagger, a monk with three dice (a five, a six and a three) instead of a head, on the bar of the cross are then modern lanterns, pair of ice tongs, a ladder, and a rooster on a podium. The symbols are all made of tin. Below the cross is a placard reading "Thy Kingdom Come, 100 Days Indulgance (Pius IX 14th June 1877)"
Behind the cross is a beautifully detailed drawing of angels. However, there is some frost-colored mold that I recommend having an antique dealer/specialist advise on how to clean. Don't make the mistake of using K-Mart local store products, lol. The diorama area with the cross is lined with silk and a floral design and measures 9 and a half inches by thirteen. The wooden frame is good condition (will require cleaning) measures 14 inches by 18 inches. The back still has the wire for wall framing. For more information, please e-mail me at gandreiev@aol.com. I can send larger resolution photos. Good luck.
