c1831 19c Staffordshire PINK Transferware Plate SCENERY Minty
|
DescriptionPackhorseantiques is offering this 19th Century Antique English Pink Staffordshire Transferware supper plate in the Jacksons Clyde Scenery pattern in a pearlware glaze c1831. Measures 9" wide and is 1" tall. Very clearly back stamped with printed pattern name on reverse. Made by John & Job Jackson (GMK 2156) of Church Yard Works, Burslem, Staffordshire, England (1831-1835.)Central scene is of the famous River Clyde of Glasgow, Scotland, which grew in importance as a western port facing America and a good landing spot for cotton and tobacco from the New World; for that reason was most likely chosen for this pattern. Clydeside as it became known, later became internationally famous as a ship building center but this was way before any of that!
Here the river has a pastoral aspect as a family of five swans glide on its waters and two young girls with a little dog walk along its bank, it looks as if the dog is barking at the swans!
Has a prettily scalloped rim making for a good display. Border pattern is of vignettes of sailing ships or sailboats with farm buildings and trees on the shore. In between are cartouches of flowers and panels. The inner well is distinguished by a stylized inner border of three flowers alternating with scroll work.
This is in perfect condition, with no age crazing, chips, cracks, stains or utensil marks. Very good Staffordshire plate in a hard to find pattern. Perfect gift for the student of Scotland or early trading ships. Please check my other listing for more early transferware, transfer prints, ironstone as well as costume and fine antique estate jewelry and pretty gifts for you and yours. Shipping
Shipping is usually within 1 business day of receiving payment. I use USPS Priority,Parcel Post or 1st Class with delivery confirmation. International sales are by First Class International to Canada which will be the same price as the USA for jewelry items; for other larger items and elsewhere, please e mail for shipping charges.
Please note First Class International is the former air mail letter post which has no tracking or insurance available. I love my overseas buyers and so hate to say this but for items which sell for over $50, it is strongly recommended that you consider Priority Mail International which allows on line tracking and insurance. Priority Mail International is required for items which sell for over $75. This can mean shipping for jewelry items will range from about $20-$25.
A small charge of $1 to $2.50 may be made for packing materials particularly for ceramic and glass items. If it will be any more, this will be noted in the description.
Terms of Sale
I hate to say but please do not bid if you have 0 Feedback without contacting me first to arrange payment methods or your bid will be canceled due to non paying bidders. Otherwise, have fun!
Please note that antique ceramics will often have small in the making flaws such as minor kiln grit and transfer smudges due to the primitive nature of the wood fired kilns in which they were made and that no attempt is made to describe them. Acquired damage will, of course, be noted.
