Antique Victorian Glass Bead & Tapestry Purse, Belgium

This is a beautiful Victorian purse that’s in excellent condition. The leather strip hand-sewn onto the inside black lining reads Made in Belgium (faded, but visible upon close inspection).

Black glass beads follow the curvy pattern of a floral tapestry design on both sides of the bag and on the bottom. All of the beads are black and they’re all present; the floral tapestry is in pastel shades of pink, green, yellow, lavender, and blue.

The bag has a rounded gold-tone metal frame embossed with a delicate pattern on the sides and on the top. There’s a double gold-tone link chain that has darkened with age and use as has the clasp.

The purse measures 5½” high by 5½” wide. The black lining is intact (no fraying or tears) and has an angled pocket on one side that snaps closed. I can see one or two beads that are slightly further out from the rest, but the thread is intact and no beads are missing.

It’s a beautiful purse.
