This style of hand held eyeglasses was very popular during the Victorian Era.
Not just for the Opera....but wonderful magnifying glasses on a chain~~Talk about a Conversation Necklace~~?
There are no markings, but could be of German, French, English or Austrian origin.
These are Different from the Oxford style, as they do NOT have the Nose Pad which could be used to set the glasses on the nose.
The gold filled eyeglasses are 5 3/4" long with a very strong spring which opens the glasses and the hinges are also in Excellent condition.
With just the flip of your thumb, the glasses open up and are 4" long.
The nose piece is 1"...the handle is 4" long with a circle on the end which would slip easily onto a chain to wear around the neck.
Some wear to the gold on the handle, and a few very, very light surface marks on the lenses.

OUR PRIMARY METHOD OF SHIPPING IS U.S. Postal Service PRIORITY MAIL. We have found this to generally be the least expense and safest way to ship items under 20 pounds. We use UPS only for VERY LARGE packages or packages OVER 20 pounds. Since UPS does not pick up, our packing charge is HIGHER for UPS shipments. Fred is a packing fanatic and more than one satisfied customer has commented that "the package could be dropped off of a 20 story building and not get broken." Although we require insurance on the more expensive and fragile items (no exception), on less expensive and/or durable items, you may opt out of insurance with the understanding that things do sometimes get broken and you agree to bear full responsible for breakage or damage.
SHIPPING CHARGES: Is it worth it? Here is what a VERY satisfied eBayer wrote us: Just wanted to let you know that I went to the P.O. and when I got home, there it was! At first I was thrilled, then I saw the box. It was bashed, smashed and all but dead. My expectations were low and I opened the box as if I was performing delicate surgery.
