Antique Whiskey Bottle Western House Bar Elgin IL

This antique whiskey bottle is from the Western House Bar in Elgin, Illinois.  The bottle says ‘Western House Bar, Elgin, Ill., Fine Whiskeys and Cigars, J.L. Van Meter, Prop.’  The bottom of the bottle says ‘design patented, Pat. Aug. 9, 1898.’  The bottle is 8 ½ inches tall and 3 ½ inches wide.  It has no chips or damage... in fact, I believe it is unused ...

The building where the Western House Bar was is still standing, by the way, in Elgin.  It's the building on the left in the first photograph.

My in-laws were antique dealers in northern Illinois for years, and then both worked for an auction service for a long time.   They were collectors of almost every kind of historical memorabilia since shortly after World War II.  PawPaw could always find a lot more interesting items to bring home than he could sell, so he saved them! 

After Mimi passed away in 2005, PawPaw decided it was time to start sharing his treasures with others, and he entrusted me with listing them.  We lost our PawPaw on September 26, but I still have many, many of his vintage and antique collectibles that need new homes, and I will continue listing them as we have for the past four years. 

I am not a dealer, a collector, or an expert, but I do try to describe each of PawPaw's items carefully and fully and to take good photos.  If you have any questions about any item listed, please feel free to ask, and I will do my best to find the answer for you.
