Antique Yatagan Turkish Ottoman Sword Islamic Yataghan

A Splendid Antique 18th century Turkish Ottoman Sword Yatagan Islamic Yataghan made by an important Turkish Ottoman sword smith, Al Hajj Ibrahim. DETAILS: A characteristic large ear shaped hilt mounted in gold gilded metal decorated in atypical Balkan raised knobbed design and applied with raised settings of four fluted almond-shaped and two rounded corals with two round green glass stones on the ricasso. A recurved single edged blade with a narrow fuller ornamented with engraved Arabic calligraphy “Made by Al Hajj Ibrahim for Mehmed Aga”. This Ottoman sword smith worked in the late 18th century and is listed in the book “Islamic Armourers and Their Works“ by L. A. Mayer Page 40. All of his signed swords are custom made for very high ranked Ottoman officials with titles as Pasha or Agha. Yatagans of this work are in the Be Musee Benaki Athens National Museum and Copenhagen. The sword comes with its original leather covered wooden scabbard with metal mounts.
