 I am told that this is a sterling silver thimble with a gold band around the base. The marking on the inside, (way inside the cap, so it's impossible for me to get a photo of it,)  is an old english S in a shield which is the mark of the Simons Bros. Co. of Philadelphia. SO beautiful!!  Fine ornate detailing, much nicer even than shown! On one of the flat surfaces is an ornate letter R, on another the date 6-14-14, and on another the number 8.   This gorgeous thimble is 3/4" high. It has been used, there are some minor scratches, as one would expect a fine seamstresses thimble to look, but nothing major and overall, this is truly exquisite! I have not tried to clean it at all, I would imagine if it were polished up, it would be totally stunning!!  MUCH finer than shown!
