For sale is an Apple Newton MessagePad 2100 and extra stuff. This is a 2000 model that has been upgraded to the 2100. It works great! Backlight is strong, screen is clear and scratch-free (other than one tiny blemish documented in the last picture) (the two-tone screen image is a camera trick - the screen looks great and displays normally), card slots work great!. Everything has been tested to work, including the infrared transmission (which has been my preferred method of syncing to my Pismo PowerBook).

The 2100 MessagePad is a wonderful device, powered by a fast 162-mhz ARM processor and displaying 320 by 480 pixels at 4 shades of grey. The handwriting recognition is phenomenal, you need to see it to believe it. The Newton works on four AA batteries (not included, but the battery tray is).

The upgrades don't stop at just the 2100 motherboard transplant. Also installed is a serial port card that eliminates the need for a serial dongle! The port is a nine-pin port that accepts the usual Apple 8-pin serial cable for connecting printers and the keyboard (like the one pictured, which is included). The dongle solution (not available) is fragile and awkward - the serial port board is a far more elegant solution.

The cosmetics on this thing are outstanding, near mint! No real blemishes or scratches. The feet and the cover catch on the bottom are present. The casing even has the sparkles present in the plastics (see the last picture again). The keyboard is in excellent condition as well.

Also included is an original titanium stylus (rare, these things get lost over the ten years since this device was introduced) and a 24 MB flashcard for additional storage. Two dummy cards are included, as is a canvas case that bears the Newton name and logo. Plus the original manual - also rare! Not pictured but included will be two CDs of software, one I purchased on eBay and another with the downloads I've collected over the years. Also included but not pictured is an original power adapter!

I also have available (but not included) a PCMCIA ethernet card with dongle and a wireless card, both of which have been tested to connect this Newton to the Internet with drivers that will be on the CDs. Winner should let me know if they want one or the other or both, and I will make an offer. However, if you Buy It Now, I will include your choice of one or the other FREE.
