Henson & Peary dashed to the Pole and back with a team assault that was the original Polar Express! 24 highly trained men and 133 powerful, wolf-like Eskimo husky dogs with 19 Peary designed sledges built by Henson hauled their supplies. You can see the actual history of this here. No one has ever been able to muster the skill, the logistics and/or the bravery to even try another round trip dash without possibility of rescue.
(above) Americans who explored the Arctic. Interestingly Greely was a disastrous failure and his men resorted to cannibalism. Later Henson and Peary would occupy his abandoned building as a base. They found plentiful game animals to hunt for food where Greely's men starved. When Peary wrote about this Greely hated Peary for humiliating him. Kane's trapped expedition was a horror show of slow death to scurvy.  Only Henson & Peary and Stefansson adapted to the Eskimo way of life and thrived in the arctic. In fact, there are many Eskimo descendants of Henson and Peary still hunting the walrus and polar bear today.
