I'm pleased to offer this beautiful original Plein Air oil painting titled Monument Valley Overlook. It is painted on a stretched 24 x 18 inch archival canvas with archival oil paints in impressionist style. The canvas is gallery wrapped and the staples are on the back. A signed Certificate of Authenticity is shipped with the painting.

This is a view of Monument Valley in Arizona and Utah. The mysterious shapes are the result of softer layers of sandstone being worn away by wind and water over the millennia as the Colorado Plateau was pushed up by the Rocky Mountains. The Navajo name for the valley is Tsé Bii' Ndzisgaii which means Valley of the Rocks. The Valley floor is covered with sparse low-lying desert vegetation. The monuments have natural red and blue colors from the minerals they contain but as the sun travels through the sky, the view is constantly changing as light and shadow play off each other. Above all you feel an eerie sense of timelessness. These sentinels were here long before mankind!

The colors on your screen are accurate to the original but remember that they will vary from monitor to monitor and a photo does not capture the colors or intricacy of the actual painting. The painting is sold unframed. This picture will frame to approximately 30 x 24 inches and look great in a living room, a den, an office, a bedroom, a family room or a vacation home:

This is one of a series of my Plein Aire paintings of various locations in the American West. The West has many beautiful sights to inspire a painter: the powerful Pacific Ocean, the river rapids and glass-calm lakes, the rolling foothills and majestic Rocky and Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the strangely serene deserts. I can't wait to get back out there!
