French, German, English, Scots, Irish and Scandinavian settlers all contributed to the dynamic and varied artistic heritage of Illinois. The Mormons also built their first utopian community there, to which a chapter is devoted here. This survey is very strong on folk portraits and folk paintings, textiles, architecture and interiors; it also contains a chapter on potters; there is much furniture, but mostly illustrated with line drawings.
