This is composed of silver, gold, enamel and precious stones. The wings are Plique à jour in lovely multicolor hues. The eyes are genuine colbalt blue enameling, with a small 0.02pt ruby set at the top of the head. The body is a Rare and most unusual stone called Williamsite, which very closely resembles the "CAT'S EYE" stone, only Green. On each side of the Green stone are little wings that raise slightly off the body. These are set with prong set diamonds, 0.02pt to 0.03pt in size, and total 0.086ctw. The tail is lovely and set with Ruby stones the entire length, approx., size is 0.03pt to 0.05pt, and these total .38ctw. This brooch measures 2 3/4" long, by 2 3/4" wide and weighs 22.3grs. There is a hallmark on the back, but it is very difficult for these old eyes to read, I can see the 585, so that is mark for 14K in yellow gold. The pin on the back is still nice and straight, it has a barrel style clasp. There is a tip on the end, for added security. When you slide the bar down, you turn the barrel and the tip goes past the slot. You can't unlock the pin until you aline the tip with the slot.
