'Celestial Globe' by Ferdinand Verbiest (Flemish 1623-1688). This is a fabulous art print taken from the Vatican Library Astronomical Collection. The print is brand new and measures 24x30 inches (61x76cm). Produced on quality heavy gauge paper - the gallery image can't begin to do this fine picture justice. The descriptive text area includes the Vatican Library seal.
About the Pope Nicholas V founded the Vatican Library in 1450. The rooms in which it was housed were splendidly frescoed, lighted by large windows and furnished with elaborate wooden benches. Over the years, contributions by top scholars and other benefactors have continually increased the Library's collection of books and illuminated manuscripts, while great artists of the Classical and Renaissance periods added their mastery to the hallways, ceilings and furniture of the building. The Library soon became as spectacular a work of art (in its own way) as the Sistine Chapel or Saint Peter's. Today the Vatican Library has by far the largest collection of books in the Western world.
The Vatican Library Collection of Art Prints makes many of the priceless and treasured works of art housed within the Vatican Library available for wider appreciation.
