This trunk offers a most unusual home accessory for all adventurous home decorators out there. It's beautifully handpainted and truly is a piece of art by itself.
Due to it's size, it makes a great coffee- or sidetable or use it in the traditional manner of chests: at the end of a bed as storage for your blankets.
Either way you decide to use this trunk, it will be a statement piece in your home and definitely a conversation starter when you entertain guests. The paintings you
see are all very characteristic for Tibetan furniture. Every drawing and pattern has a meaning deeply rooted in Buddhism.
The front painting depicts a Buddha receiving a gift from a visitor, a snow lion and a bird, all in front of a hilly landscape. The snow lion is the national emblem of
Tibet, and represents playful dignity, goodness and fearlessness. On the top, a Buddha is holding out a lotus flower as a gift to a visitor, again, with a hilly
background landscape. On the sides are pictured the Buddhist "Pearls of Wisdom" on a bright orange background, surrounded by billowing clouds, which symbolize
the union of compassion and wisdom. There is a wide black border painted all around the edges of the trunk, inside this border are individual paintings in a
geometric, interlocking pattern that represent the eternal knot.
The inside of the trunk and the back are stained dark brown. There are hardware pieces protecting all the corners and in intervals throughout the chest. The top
lifts up and is connected to the bottom by two large rings. The material is cloth covered wood.
The height is 20", the width is 25" and depth is 18.5".
The trunk has an antique feel to it but we are unsure about it's origin and precise age. The trunk is in excellent condition, with no obvious large damage, however,
we advise you to please study the pictures carefully before you place your bid. The cloth is a bid loose at the bottom in a couple of spots and there appears to be
what looks like a "crackle finish" in an area on the one side. This will in no way take away from the beauty and artistry of this treasure trunk, however, we will not
accept these flaws as reasons for a return.
