“Rupert the Clown” is a 15” batik mohair bear wearing a clown hat and ruffled collar. All items, unless otherwise noted, are hand made and OOAK.

Rupert is from my “Classic Bears” series. He is made from the most wonderful curly batik mohair. Batik is a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using wax as a dye repellent to cover parts of a design, dyeing the uncovered fabric with a color or colors, and dissolving the wax in boiling water. This mohair is soft and curly, with such a beautiful variety of complimentary shades from ivory to copper to mahogany brown. It is truly a very special fabric. So here is Rupert in his clown outfit; I hope you enjoy him.

INTRODUCTION:

Rupert is a very sweet little bear who enjoys making people laugh. That is why he joined the circus; to fulfill his life long desire to be a clown. His favorite clowns are the ones with a sad face, so Rupert practices daily in front of the mirror to make sure he can always maintain his somber expression.

BEAR DESCRIPTION

-Rupert is 15” tall and made of 5/8” batik brown curly Schulte mohair. This mohair is very soft to the touch with luxuriously springy curls and distinctive variegated coloring ranging from ivory to copper to mahogany brown.

-His face is meticulously needle and scissor sculpted, then hand shaded in dark browns to emphasize his “serious clown” expression.

-He has a sculpted and embroidered closed mouth.

-His nose is embroidered in dark brown Pearl cotton, hand shaded in black and then varnished.

-Rupert sees with black glass eyes.

-Rupert ’s paws are made from brownstone Ultrasuede with suntan Ultrasuede pads. The pads have been outlined in a hand sewn blanket stitch with ivory colored embroidery floss.

-Rupert is extremely well balanced and will stand and pose unassisted. He has wire armatures in both his legs and arms.

-Like all good bears of the wood, he features an ursine hump in his back.

-Rupert has been sewn with double stitched seams and reinforced stress points.

-The excess fur is hand trimmed from the seam allowances prior to stitching to produce a smoother, flatter, more invisible seam.

-His paws and the tops of his arms over the joints are firmly stuffed. The rest of his arms, however, are lightly stuffed to allow him more movement to clown around.

-His feet and tummy have bagged BBs added for balance and weight. He is firmly stuffed with poly-fill, and he weighs approximately 2 pounds.

-He is 5 way jointed with set screws and lock nuts.

COSTUME DESCRIPTION

-Rupert is wearing an organdy covered white satin clown hat. The organdy has small clear “beads” and rhinestone sparkles. The hat is piped in red at the edge while the top sports a red pompom. There are also blue, yellow and green pompoms down the front of the hat.

-He has a removable three tier ruffled clown collar made from the same organdy as the hat. The three ruffles are piped in blue, yellow and green with red piping down the front and a red neckband. The collar is tied in the front with a red ribbon bow that has red pompoms adorning the ends. It
has a hook and eye closure as well.

-The piping and pompoms on the hat and collar are all bright colors.

ORIGINALITY

My bears, accessories and props are all designed and hand crafted by myself, Thelma Craghead of TC Folk, with the help of my husband Mike, who creates the wooden or metal parts necessary to carry out the theme.

I believe that all the items in my creations should be hand made as much as possible and not store purchased, so unless otherwise noted, every thing connected with my little “Folk” has been created by hand.

SHIPPING & PACKAGING

Shipping is by UPS or USPS, your choice, and insurance is required.

My bears are securely strapped inside and packed double boxed to help ensure their safety during shipping.

The actual shipping costs will be charged; I do not include any additional charges for handling.

Should you encounter a problem with damaged or lost shipments, contact me immediately to allow me to work with you and the shipping company towards a resolution.

Shipping insurance is required.
