Description: University of Pittsburgh Press 2005. Hardback 305 x 229mm; 232 pages. First comprehensive survey of Bakewell glass; emphasizes table and ornamental glass that is free-blown, mold-blown, and pressed. Over 100 rare objects illustrate array of decorative techniques including cutting, engraving, and cameo-incrustation. In 1808, English-born entrepreneur Benjamin Bakewell, with other businessmen, purchased a glassworks in Pittsburgh. By the 1820s it was recognized as one of the premier glass producers. The Frick Art and Historical Center exhibition featured some 120 objects, most of which are Bakewell products, January 22 to March 27, 2005. Includes Bakewell genealogy chart.
Condition: Very Fine, like new. No interior or exterior markings. Tight binding. No marks, stains, rips, pencil marks. Dustjacket. Minor rubbing on dustjacket where price sticker was removed. Otherwise, not tears, chips or marks. Mylar protective cover.
