This is not an antique piece.
This vase is a "second", meaning it is less than perfect. There are areas where the glaze is thin. This was an experimental piece.
Prairie Art Vases: The pottery studio is located in the milk house on a century old dairy farm located near Spring Green, Wisconsin. The creative process for each piece is completed by just one artist. Each piece is individually created from stoneware clay and fired at kiln temperatures reaching over 2000 degrees. Many pieces depict the natural beauty found in the prairies, marshes and woodlands at this rural Wisconsin farm.
About this vase: This vase was turned on the potter's wheel. This vase measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches wide. This vase was hand decorated and hand painted with Wild Violets and then glazed with the studio’s organic matte yellow glaze. This vase is NOT watertight or food safe.
About the glaze: The organic matte crystalline glazes are hand mixed at our studio. These are thick, rich, flowing glazes similar to glazes used by Grueby and other “Arts and Crafts” potters. As glaze runs, it pools and sometimes forms areas that are glossy, very interesting effect!
