Offered for sale is a Asian style Wall Art Quilt called "Garden Slider".
Quilt measures 40" wide by 40" long.  It is machine made and machine quilted, and includes a sleeve on the back for hanging.
Created in December 2001.
 
"Garden Slider" is one of the quilts made for my 'diagonals' series. This design was to become one of my best selling quilt patterns, Dancing Diagonals.
 
As with every quilt in this series (there are a lot of them... somewhere along the way I lost count,maybe 40?  all very different of course... stay tuned as many of them will be listed for sale) it starts with a special fabric, this one a beautiful Japanese reproduction kimono fabric - the colors on this fabric, rich purple and rich orange, with a secondary splash of pink, and striking images of flowers, drums, packages, was the perfect starting point.  I chose to focus first on the pinks and purples, and placed these on the diagonal to highlight that special fabric.  The majority of the rest of the piece I kept monochromatic, with the darker tonal purples on the lower half, and the lighter tinted purples in the upper half.  To create the spark that comes from using complimentary colors in a quilt, I added the bit of orange, in a few triangles, a square, the inner border, and scattered in the border.
 
I once had someone remark, these quilts are just squares, how long can they take?  But each and every fabric is carefully chosen to support the color scheme, the style, and the overall balance of the composition.  It often takes many days of trial and error before the final fabrics are chosen for a quilt.  That is definitely true in this case, including the border.  It was pure serendipity to find the most perfect border fabric with all the right colors and style, but I did!
 
  The quilting is extensive on this piece - difficult to completely see in the pictures because my style is to use matching threads so as not to clash with the fabrics in the quilt.  All the elements in the diagonal fabric are outline quilted, as are the giant mums in the upper corner.  Flowing meanders fill the rest of the space, and the border is quilted in rainbow arcs.
 
The back is another 'composition', combining a beautiful floral sateen fabric with some appropriate leftovers.  Label is machine embroidered.
