Offered for sale is a Asian style Wall Art Quilt called "Kabuki".

Quilt measures 38" wide by 39" long. It is machine made and machine quilted, and includes a sleeve on the back for hanging.

Created in November 2001.

"Kabuki Slider" was the first of this design I created. It was to become one of my best selling quilt patterns, Dancing Diagonals.

The initial inspiration was the colorful fabric with kabuki masks. I wanted to show this fabric in an art quilt, which meant I could not cut it up into small pieces.

I knew I wanted to do something simple with squares and triangles. I thought about it for weeks. I finally decided on the large squares (each square is 6"), since that's what I needed to capture enough of the kabuki masks. I laid them out diagonally, and it all happened from there. Once it was all laid out on my design board, it looked like one of those "slider" puzzles which have one blank space - hence the name.

This is a warm analogous color scheme, which adds heat but also excitement when viewed. Note the scale variety among the fabrics causing the eye to jump around . The solids contribute to strong diagonal lines. The overall design is balanced, yet asymmetrical. Yellow is used as a highlight, adding additional interest.

This quilt was the first one quilted in a pattern that was to become 'Japanese stippling or meandering'. All quilting is free-motion, with no marking.
