Jeremiah Parrish came to Astro City in 1869, a priest assisting in the building of the great Grandenetti Cathedral. But he fell victim to a vampire -- and was reborn as one of the undead. Considering himself cursed and beyond redemption, he hid himself in the uncompleted cathedral for decades -- until the emergence of superheroes gave him the idea to atone for his fall, and to walk among the living once more, as the cloaked, nightwalking Confessor.
Using his keen mind and vampiric strength and mesmerism, he became a force for good in Astro City starting in the late 1950's; a legendary, never-photographed presence, somewhere between hero and urban legend, always working alone -- until very recently, when he allowed young Brian Kinney (Altar Boy) to join him as student, partner, and eventually, successor.
Today, the Confessor is considered dead -- but his legend never dies.
