Audrey Hepburn, Truman Capote & Mel Ferrer 1961 Photo

This can only be described as one of the most charming and significant original photographs extant of the iconic Academy Award winning actress Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn is candidly photographed with young writer Truman Capote and actor/ director husband Mel Ferrer in a “Mutoscope” photo booth at the time of her filming her best known film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (1961). The “2.5 X 3.25” originally developed black and white snapshot from this popular arcade activity shows the three celebs in a tight fit before the camera with the curtain behind them. The photo paper is stamped on the verso to identify the origin of this unique Mutoscope photograph that in all likelihood belonged to one of these famous subjects and likely the only such image extant.

Capote’s novella “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” written in 1958 was adapted to the screen in 1961, with his syllable perfect dialog written for character Holly Golightly perfectly portrayed by Hepburn in the film. Hepburn’s fourteen year marriage to Ferrer began in 1954 after they were introduced to each other at a party hosted by actor Gregory Peck and then appearing together in the play “Ondine,” Audrey epitomized class and glamour on and off the screen. Hepburn’s on-screen efforts garnered 5 Best Actress Academy Award nominations. She took home the Oscar for her 1953 performance in the film, "Roman Holiday."
