A charming little turned wooden vase- beautifully picked out in pokerwork as shown in an organic and convincing depiction of clusters of gum blossom and leaves. The ground of the vase has been stained darker- which really makes the leaves stand out nicely as shown. A reddish stain is applied to areas and finishes the vase off nicely. A chip to the rim along one side is the only detraction- and is scarcely noticed on general display. These items usually had (or were made to) accommodate a domestic drinking glass inside- in order to properly waterproof the wood for use as a vase. A tall shot glass would be about right for this example if intended for use as a vase. No makers marks- a terrific piece of early Australiana.
