Authentic RESISTOL Straw Cowboy Hat - Size 7 3/8 - NEW! Discontinued "Rio Frio" Design by George Strait!
Resistol has been making no-nonsense cowboy hats and rodeo wear in Texas ever since 1927. I won this handsome new Resistol cowboy hat at the Denver Stock Show in 2001. It's never been worn, and my riding days are long gone, so I'm letting it go. Mint condition, with three black eyelet vents on each side. Sturdy stitched straw in a natural tan/beige color. Brim is about 4" wide; crown is about 5" high. I replaced the plain hatband with a fancy braided horsehair band that I bought in Nashville, TN. Black leather sweatband on the inside is embossed in gold: "Miller Stockman" (a Denver store)..."RESISTOL - Self-Conforming - Made in Texas, USA"..."A George Strait Design". A label under the sweatband indicates the style name is "Rio Frio". Resistol is famous for making working cowboy hats that stand up to rain, sleet, snow, dust, sun, sweat...while stomping broncs or cutting cattle. You can mold the brim to your own taste and style; the hats actually improve with age! The folks at Resistol tell me this hat originally retailed for about $50, but the style has been discontinued, so you can't buy it anymore. I got my first Resistol hat in 1964 when I worked for a Montana pack-trip outfitter and dude ranch; it served me well! (FYI, just in case you don't know: George Strait is a popular US country-western singer who sold his name to Resistol.)
