I'm selling a Texas short Sword that was found in Texas. The sword is estimated to be from around 1860 to 1890. It is 23" in length from the point of the blade to the tip of the ear on the horse. The blade alone measures 18." The handle is made of wood in two halves held together by hand forged rivets that pass through to each side. The wood has taken on a luster through use and by the absorbtion of oil from the users hand. The horse head was carved with significant feature including the mane. The mane has been worn away on one side of the horses neck. I think the reason is that the sword has seen heavy use. The worn side rested in the palm and the fingers grasped around the side that isn't worn. The ears have deteriorated. The blade shows use and some pitting at the point end. The integrity of the sword is in tact and all parts are tight. It is an authentic period piece and only one can imagine how it was used.
