This auction is for an Automatic Electric Monophone model AE40 1940s art deco desk phone in excellent condition. Although Western Electric's 302 desk phone of this era was more popular, the AE40 was technically and aesthetically superior. For example, one of the neat features of the AE40 is the use of 2 individually tuned brass bells that produce a nostalgic ring, quite distinct from modern phones. The dial is nickel and shows some wear from fingernails, but looks better in person than in the photos. This particular phone has chrome plungers and plate across the saddle, in very good condition. The phone has a new cloth line cord with a modular jack. It has been tested and verified to be fully working. The bakelite on both the body of the phone and the handset is in very nice condition with no gouges or breaks. The only slight flaw is a small void in the rubber base ring. This is not noticeable, but new replacement rings can be purchased on line. In summary, this phone will be ready to plug in and use upon receipt. Please email with any questions. |
