I am a full
time artist who lives and works in Western Springs, Illinois.
I started painting
in oils at the age of 17. Prior to then, I worked mostly with pastels.
Later I moved on to acrylics, which eventually led to oil painting.
Even though
I have always been very active and serious about my art, I did not
pursue painting as a career until later in my life.
I have always
worked in an art field however. My art education was geared toward
fine art and fashion design.
I worked in
the fashion industry for 15 years designing for the country's top
evening and special occasion wear houses and winning several prestigous
industry's awards.
Today I commit
to painting full time and I am very active competing and showing
my art.
My work has
gone up in value by well over 100% over the last 6 months alone.
If you are
not familiar with my work or have not heard my name before, please
do watch my auctions and you will see that I am consistent and professional.
My work is
somewhat diverse as you may notice, but I really do not want to
limit myself to only one style of painting at this point.
My typical
work is very colorful and textured. I am most known for my landscapes,
cityscapes and flamenco dancers.
I use primerly
painting knives instead of brushes which give my work very distinct
look and feel. The painting knife was just a scraping tool in the
past, it has come a long way from then and today is available in
many shapes and sizes specifically designed for painting. It was
such a natural choice for me to use this tool. The knife and my
personality were made for each other. I work fast with big bold
strokes and thick layers of paint. Rushing to capture the moment,
90% expression, 10% detail. I did not discover the knife however
until about 6 years ago when the oil paint solvents began to make
me ill. I put down my brush and piked up the knife. It was a magical
moment for me and I wondered why I have not tried it sooner. .
Some of the
major characteristics of my work are bright, primary colors, contrast
between the light and dark and lots and lots of texture.
I also create
abstract paintings with practically no texture and carefully blended
rich colors. These paintings are the result of my growth as an artist.
Abstraction came to me naturally, but over a long period of time.
I have recently
closed my studio and I am working out of my home until I can find
another more suitable location for an artist's studio. |
