LOVELY FRENCH GIFT SET FOR A BABY!

IN A SATIN BLUE AND GREY BOX RESTS A SPOON AND A FORK FOR A YOUNG CHILD. 

 MADE OF SILVER .60 BY E. ROUIS

It is a Royal blue box with gold metal closures. The exterior of the box is made of blue leather textured paper .  The inside has a bed of grey velvet for the fork and the spoon. The lid is lined with blue grey satin.

The set of spoon and fork is used in France for a young child until they can use the adult size flatware.  This spoon is 7 1/4" long with a bowl a little like your American dessert spoon.  The fork is also 7 1/4" long.  The rectangular maker's mark is on the right side for both the spoon and the fork.  The maker is difficult to read but definitely ends with "ouis".  This maker has a lobster or other animal as a hallmark which is seen in the top of the square on the right and has a number .60 below it. The handles of the flatware end at about 3/4 of an inch wide to finish close to the bowl or tines in a narrow band of less than 1/4 of an inch. The fork and spoon are ornated with spiraling floral typical of the late 19th C.

Seen from the back there is no marks and the handle shows the same design at the top and end of the handles. The handles also have a fine double line ridge all around and it adds elegance to the set. This is a very beautiful design and it polishes very well.  Good condition!
