This is the Mercedes model - read in the photos what Vincent Bach had to say about it in his Mt Vernon catalogue, it is not a student horn, but more an economy version of the Stradivarius. The most interesting thing about it is the bore, .456" which is between the Strad's Medium and Medium large bore. Bach says it "ranks with the Strad," and is an "immeasureable aid to endurance." The serial number is 14762. On the bell is " Mercedes Model Vincent Bach Corporation Mt. Vernon New York USA". On the 2cd valve is a cartouche with "V.Bach Mt Vernon USA." The serial number is also on each valve and on each top valve cap. There is no number on the mouthpiece receiver.
Condition wise, there is about 35% wear on the lacquer finish, which has also darkened somewhat. However, all engraving is deep and distinct indicating this is probably the original lacquer. There are no dents, no patches, and no rot, though very close inspection may reveal a few very small dings here and there. The valves have great compression and great smooth action, although the stroke, with apparent perfect alignment, is slightly longer than that of a typical Bach Stradivarius. Nothing is stuck. This trumpet plays very well and is ready to go as is - just take it out of the case and start playing. It comes with a Mt Vernon 10 1/2C mouthpiece in very good condition. The case is a Bach, but not original, and the handle is missing, although it's sturdy and useable. This is a great horn to play as well as a rare collectible.
