This is for a Vintage TLSO brace, from the 1950's, which is in remarkable condition considering its age. It was made for scoliosis/kyphosis management, and has special resting bar outriggers encapsulating the shoulder axilla region. The entire framework of the brace is made of steel, and that is affixed to a thick russet brown leather hide. The brace also has counterforce axillary strap tabs on either lateral aspect of the superstructure, for correctional pads to be added, althought they are currently absent. The brace was made for a person with a 32" waist and 36" chest as best can be assessed by its dimensions. It would seem to fit either male or female physiques as there is the open area in the front, but based on dimensional characterisitics, and lower superstructure shape, it would be safe to assume it was made from the cast of an adolescent girl. This design is consistent with the braces made for a female figure, requiring kyphotic correction in the late fifties. The leather is not cracked or dry rotted, but it is discolored in some places, and the front is especially dusty, as can be seen in the pictures. It has no odor, and has been in storage for some time, the last time it was out was for a seminar our orthotics company held discussing spinal treatment histories. The brace closes in front with three wide buckle straps, and there is adjustment slide bars on the lateral sides of the superstructure to adjust the side height, and reposition the acillary shoulder rest immobilizers. This brace is about 21" in height/length at the back.
The brace is being offerred in its original current condition for the amount in the auction, however, should the winning bidder want the brace to be refurbished, and re-hided for a more current application or purpose, we will do so in our lab for a small additional fee(contact us for details).
