Album notes
Personnel include: Bobby Bare Jr. (vocals, guitars); Deanna Varagona (vocals, saxophone); Corey Younts (vocals, keyboards); Carl Broemel (guitar, keyboards); Brad Jones (organ, electric bass); Patrick Hallahan (drums). Though he's the son of the outlaw country artist Bobby Bare, Bobby Bare Jr. has absorbed as much from the vintage pop of bands like the Kinks, Badfinger, and Big Star as he has from the work of Hank Williams or Waylon Jennings. This has never been more apparent than on this live-in-the-studio album, where "The Heart Bionic" swings as dangerously as David Bowie's "Jean Genie," "Uh Wuh Oh" recalls the bubblegum bands of Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz; and Bare Jr.'s reconstruction of the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind" strips the original to its essentials and turns it inside out. Also of note is Bare's all-star Young Criminals Starvation League, which includes members of Lambchop, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Clem Snide, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket, among others.
