Species: Calcite, hematite
Locality: Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico
Size: Cabinet - 9.7 x 9 x 6.9 cm (3-7/8 x 3-5/8 x 2-3/4")
Notes: This big hunk is chock-full of charm, busting at the seams! The lovely phantoms attract most people's interest, sharp dogtooth first-generation calcites covered with red or submetallic grey hematite, overgrown by fat, clear, pale yellow rhombs with butterscotch tips. Ah, but flip it over and bring on the UV and a secret world emerges: scary, Franklin-bright red-orange zones with wild trigonal symmetry show up under shortwave ultraviolet, and my brand-new UV Systems midwave lamp brings out pretty 2-color pink & yellow glows I had no idea were there. Get midwave, it's worth the investment! So is this A-1 specimen.
BILBOBURGLAR GOES WEST... THE LAND OF ENCHANTMENT I'm finding lots of great rocks field-tripping around New Mexico, and ferreting out great Mexican, midwestern and worldwide classics from my sources of old and new collections.
These next few weeks I'm putting up some of those, along with:
*** Unusual fluorescents from the US, Mexico, Africa and worldwide
*** Fluorite, garnets and more from New Mexico, old Mexico, and wherever
*** Beautiful agates for display and lapidary work - soon, really, I just got my saws!
*** And let's not forget the neighbors: Nevada, Utah, Arizona, California, Texas and so on...
Also expect the usual: quality specimens, reasonable minimum bids, no reserve prices, and great customer service.
As always, I will hold items up to 2-3 weeks for combined shipping to cut your postage costs. Please make payment within 7 days of invoice unless other arrangements are made. PayPal is preferred to allow faster shipping. I also accept cashier's checks and money orders in U.S. funds. I do not accept bank transfers because of unpredictable fees. E-mail for details, especially for shipments outside the USA and Canada.
