BEACHCOMBING For

Japanese Glass Floats

by AMOS L. WOOD

MINFORDS & MORT, Publishers

Portland * Oregon * 1967

Copyright 1967 by Binfords & Mort Publishers

A stated "FIRST EDITION"

This book is Dedicated, Signed and Dated by the Author.

Hardbound, in very good condition with dust jacket, 221 pages includes CONTENTS, FOREWORD, plus a section on TRADEMARKS and IMPRINTS, measures approximately 5 3/4" x 8 3/4".

The jacket presents photos front and rear on a blue background. It is lightly rubbed, primarily at the corners and ends of the spine, but generally still quite clean and free of fading. This price is intact and it has been placed in an Archival Quality clear Mylar jacket cover to protect it in the future.

The boards are covered in grey cloth with red titles. They are clean with perhaps a bit of soil or age toning around the edges. Edge wear is moderate with a few creases but no actual tears, worn through areas or fraying.

The interior reveals lovely mapped end papers front and rear. The contents are clean and firmly bound, lightly age toned but not foxed. The Author has signed on the "dedication page", opposite the copyright page. There are no further ownership indicatins, no marks, creases or tears.

"Of all the marine treasures washed ashore on Pacific Coast beaches, most prized are the beautiful glass fishing floats that arrive by way of the Kuroshio current from Japan. With their fascinating markings, delicate colorings, myriad designs, and strange origins, they are sought by both professional and amateur beachcombers."

"Each year thousands of Oriental glass balls break away from the nets of fishermen and toss among ocean waves until some chance storm, some freak current, casts them ashore." - Binfords & Mort. Publishers

It is a rare individual whose imagination is not captivated by the possibilities offered in the discovery of a glass fishing float. Where is it from? How old is it? How did it come to no longer be adrift in the sea. BEACHCOMBING FOR JAPANESE GLASS FLOATS attempted to at least explore the possibilities and did so in such a complete manner that it is still today the classic Japanese glass float book.

The book offers over 100 photos plus background on the creation and use of the glass floats plus the geographic influences and currents. Also included is a chapter on the diagrams that are the trademarks of the different companies that make the floats.

Issued in wraps also, this is a book that can not be resisted. As compelling today as it was when first published, this particular hardbound First Edition in its dust jacket, Signed by the Author would be a prize find for a collector of either glass floats or Pacific Isle books. USPS Priority Mail Delivery, securely packed to prevent shipping damage. USPS Priority International Mail Delivery in the Economical Flat Rate Packet to 180 countries worldwide.
