This is a nice playing and looking example of the classic 1933 Stewart Warner 1261 "York" tombstone art deco radio. They were considered a very high quality radio in it's day and even now, it plays wonderfully and draws in many stations across the dial. AM works beautifully and is very sensitive when you attach a wire to it's antenna lead. I can get shortwave as well on it. Some of the bands on the selector are no longer available, but the shortwave and AM work well. It's funny to think that Pearl Harbor, WWII and Orson Wells "War of the Worlds" were probably listened to on this very radio when they were broadcast originally.
The radio has a safe newer power cord and was restored when I bought it a few years ago. There are some new capacitors and the power supply has had it's capacitors upgraded. There is no hum, and it plays as it should. I've listened to it regularly. Works great for late night listening. It's a very impressive radio to have in your living room. We've had many comments on it from visitors. The radio is just as we bought it.
The chassis is neat and clean and the speaker is not torn or has any defects in it. In short, the radio is in Excellent condition. It's not new, and has some minor marks in it, but LOOK at the pictures, it's VERY nice. The one spot to notice in particular is shown in the photos. It looks like it could be touched up by someone who knows what they are doing. It's only in that one spot and I'll leave it to the buyer to make sure it's done properly. Looks like the finish flaked off in that area, the wood is not scratched. I don't want to attempt it when someone might well do it better to their specifications. I don't know for sure if it's the original finish, but it very well could be. It doesn't look like a refinished radio, if it is...it's a REALLY good job. I'm not sure if the speaker cloth is the original, but I suspect it may have been changed at one point. It looks great and goes very nicely with the wood. The radio is 13" deep by 14" wide by 19" tall. It weighs in at a svelte 29lbs. They made these babies to last, unlike today's products. Can you imagine a microwave working 76 years plus from now?
I'm selling it because we have just too many radios and are downsizing to a smaller place.
US and Canada sales only please. Canadian buyers responsible for all fees and duties. I can't lie or cheat the customs....not my thing....don't ask. I reserve the right to cancel bids on zero or negative feedback buyers unless I get contacted first and am reassured properly to my satisfaction. Radio is as described, I'll refund money upon receiving the radio back in my possession in the same condition it was sent in. Buyer pays return shipping. Check my feedback, I've packaged and shipped electronics before and know how to get it there in one piece and in perfect condition. If anything, I over pack to be sure. My feedbacks reflect that.
