LOWENDALL'S CELEBRATED CONSERVATORY VIOLIN, 4/4 size, made in Berlin in 1893
This beautiful old violin has plenty of sustain and resonance, well-balanced tone, and enough volume that it holds its own next to a banjo! It has good clarity with a bit of edge, but the tone is not at all harsh. There was a single hairline crack in the top (see pictures) repaired 2 years ago by the skilled craftsmen at Potter's Violins in Bethesda, MD. www.pottersviolins.com There are no other cracks anywhere on the instrument, amazing for a 115-year-old instrument. Professionally set up by the folks at Potter's, this fiddle has excellent response and is easy to play. Pegs fit well and work great. I will send along with the violin its original tailpiece and its original alligator-skin case (also made in 1893.)
I'm offering this violin for sale only because I have been out of work with illness. It fairly breaks my heart to part with it. I have put a reserve on the auction, hoping to get half of what I have invested in the instrument.
Shipping will vary depending upon location, but should not exceed $25 within continental US. Thanks for your interest in my auction.
