This beautiful little polar bear belongs to my mother.  She received it when she was a child and she is now 62 years old (she does not remember whether he was brand new when she received him or whether he was already vintage).  She has lovingly cared for him and treasured him her whole life :) 

He is in wonderful condition!  His coat is very clean,  no odors, no dust....definitely in excellent condition considering his age.  His ears are nice and tight and all of his stitching in tact (there is not a Steiff button or tag in his ear but he is very obviously a Steiff bear from the early 50's).  He sounds like he is stuffed with straw or some other stiff organic material as he crackles a bit when pressure is applied.  His nose, mouth and claws are all perfect!  His coloring is quite good.  I do believe his original color was blondish, like a real polar bear...not white.  I can see almost no yellowing whatsoever.  The only discoloration I can find is a small amount of pinkish brown near his nose and a tiny bit on his bottom.  His eyes are a gorgeous azure blue and feel like plastic.  His peachy colored paw pads are near perfect with just a trace amount dust which is hardly noticible.  His sweet little cornflower blue leather collar is in very good condition with only some noticible cracking around the buckle.  It is very stable but I do not want to fool with it too much.  The little antique brass bell still rings when you shake him.  He has one small spot on the left side of his back, about one half inch around, where there is some mohair loss but it is not that noticible (I have pictured it below).  His measurements are 8" from nose to bottom, 3" wide and 6" from top of the ear to bottom of paw.  Overall, he is just adorable and I have seen this bear sell for over $700.00 on various websites.  Thank you for taking the time to view this auction.
