This is a very old, fairly large size tobacco label, 13 7/8" x 6 3/4" - It's the type of label that was used on wooden cases of bulk tobacco in the 19th century. The label has a very colorful & detailed lithograph of a pretty young lady holding a fan. Below her is a litho. of a knight in armor standing over a slain enemy. The label reads "THE BELLE OF VIRGINIA. Sic Semper Tyrannis. Manuf'd. In The United States Of America By David Dunlop. Petersburg, Va. U.S.A." On the bottom edge of the label, in very small print, it also reads "A. Hoen & Co. Richmond, Va." The label dates from the 1880s/1890s, and it is in mint condition! No creases, no soiling, no rips or tears, etc. Buyer pays $2.90 shipping... NOTE - I'm listing 7 different old labels on eBay tonight. Please check out my other auctions! |
