I'm terribly sorry to admit that I don't actually know what this item is, but I imagine it can be used for many different purposes including but not limited to:

cell phone strap or charm

necklace pendant

clip to handbag or wallet zipper

keychain

Whatever you decide to use it for, it will certainly bring you good luck!

The metal can best be described as a pewter color.

It is rather large.  The horse shoe itself measures 3" wide x 3.25" tall.  The chain is 4.5" long when open.

I think this is called a claw clasp, but I'm not sure.  You can see the clasp quite well in the images.
