TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT the BICRON UNIT AUTOMATED SCRAP RADIATION MONITORING SYSTEM -TRUCK APPLICATIONS FOLLOWS:

DESCRIPTION: The Bicron Automated Scrap Monitoring system is modular in construction and as offered consists of the following components:

1. A microprocessor-based System Control Unit featuring simple pushbutton operation, alphanumeric panel for display of system status and parameters, and printer for permanent record of alarm conditions. The System Control Unit is housed in a wall-mount enclosure for installation in any convenient indoor location.
An RS-232 Serial output is available on the System Control Unit. This output provides a permanent record of all valid truck or train scans. This output can be easily interfaced to a serial printer or personal computer.

2. Two  Detector Assemblies, each with two individual large-area/volume plastic scintillator, PMTs, discriminators, line drivers, and high voltage power supplies.  See FIGURE 1 below for a schematic of the Typical ASM-6000E/II System Components. See FIGURE 2 below for a schematic of one of the two Double Scintillator Detector Assemblies being sold in this auction which includes 3,000 cubic inches of Scintillator for each of the two detector assemblies for a total of 6,000 cubic inches of Detector Plastic Scintillaor material --hence the manufacturer designation for this system being ASM-6000E/II

Each of the four 1500 cubic inch scintillator modules are mounted in weather tight, lined boxes known as Detector Enclosures. In addition to the the modular scintillators, each Detector Assembly include Photomultiplier Tubes to detect pulses in the scintillation material and the electronics necessary to refine the raw count data and communicate it to the System Control Unit. Each Scintillator Detector Enclosure unit includes one scintillator measuring 33" wide by 24" high by 2" deep.
A double scintillator unit includes two Scintillator Units for a total of 3,000 cubic inches of scintillator material in each of two Detector Assemblies for a total of 6,000 cubic inches of scintillator. The more scintillation material a system has, the more sensitive it is.

3. Two pairs of proximity sensor, each consisting of an infra-red light transmitter and receiver. These sensors are mounted on the Detector Assemblies to sense the presence of a truck or train in the scan area.

All of the Detector Assemblies in the system are interconnected by multi-conductor cable assemblies

SUPPLIED with this system is a 2 Detector Stand set which with similar Ludlum 4525-7000 Gate Monitor costs $6,000 by itself

Bicron Corp-- ASM 6000 Steel Scrap TRUCK/TRAIN CONTAMINATION Monitors

The Bicron steel or scrap monitors evolved from Bicron's experience at manufacturing plastic scintillation detectors for SNM monitors. Their monitors are intended for monitoring motor vehicles or rail cars. The monitor uses large area plastic scintillation detectors located in the transverse cabinets located at truck bed height.

This monitor can be used for drive-through or wait-in monitoring. The monitor also measures vehicle speed (6000-E version) and will alarm on excessive speed as well as indication of radioactive material. The monitor’s controller also does self-diagnostics to increase reliability. Quoted sensitivity for the 1 mR/h exposure rate source is detection at 8 km/h (5 mph) passage speed.
