Travis, a native of Frostproof, Florida, was a second round draft pick (58th overall) in the 2001 National Football League draft by the Buffalo Bills. As a Bill, Henry became the fourth-leading rusher in Bills history, with 3,849 yards and 27 touchdowns with a 4.0 yards per carry average. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2002 after he collected 1,438 yards and 13 touchdowns. After spending four seasons with the Bills, Travis became a Tennessee Titan in July of 2005.
Henry began displaying his athletics skills for Frostproof High, playing football and basketball, and competing in the sprint events for the track team in the spring. He was the Bulldogs running back on offense, and split his time between linebacker, nose guard and defensive end on the defensive side of the ball. His senior year was the highlight of his high school career as he amassed 4,087 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns in 14 games, which included one contest in which he rushed for 436 yards. He led the Bulldogs to the state title his senior year as well, rushing for 1,076 yards in four playoff games. The awards he collected after this season included a Parade All-America selection, Student Sport Magazine National Player of the Year, and "Mr Football Florida." He collected 7,224 rushing yards over his four years at Frostproof, which puts him second all-time in the state record books. After his illustrious years as a Bulldog, Tavis headed to the University of Tennessee to become a Volunteer. He countinued to set records while at Tennessee. He holds the school records for yards rushing (3,078), rushing attempts (556), and 100-yard performances (14). After his senior season, in which he rushed for 1,314 yards and 11 touchdowns, he was named first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press and the Sporting News. He shared the backfield with fellow NFL running back Jamal Lewis his junior season and collected 790 yards and eight touchdowns. Travis was a Sociology major at the University of Tennessee.
