made by the firm of Gebruder Bing of Nurnberg
between the years 1900 and 1906.
The coffee / tea pot is marked GBN in a rectangular losange, as shown below.
The interior of all the pieces is in gold doré.
WHAT YOU GET IN THIS SET
- This set contains four (4) pieces:
- one (1) coffee pot with one (1) attached hinged lid,
- one (1) sugar bowl with one (1) removable lid,
- one (1) creamer cream pitcher.
ACTUAL WEIGHT OF THE ENTIRE SET IS 1.6 POUNDS, BEFORE PACKING.
CONDITION DETAILS ON EACH PIECE ARE BELOW.
The Beaux Arts period is approximately from 1880 to 1910.
The Art Nouveau period overlaps the Beaux Arts period and is approximately from 1890
through 1920. The Art Deco period follows the Art Nouveau period and overlaps it,
and is from approximately 1920 through 1938. The periods are approximate because
styles defining periods do not change abruptly, as in overnight; all the countries
using the styles do not change over from the old to the new at precisely the same instant.
INFORMATION ON THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS SET: WHO IS GEBRUDER BING?
The firm "Gebrüder Bing" in Nürnberg was founded by the brothers BING in 1866.
Best known for their tinplate toys, they were specialists in tin, and toys,
and the firm also had several departments for copper, brass, pewter, and silver plate.
Their first pewter items appeared in 1904 and the last in 1906; only 26 pewter articles are found in a catalogue.
They also produced Jugendstil pieces and arts & crafts pieces; you can see more Bing pieces here:

PLEASE NOTE:
These silver metal pieces are made from some sort of silver alloy but we don't know the exact composition
of the silver metal alloy used to make them; we aren't metallurgists and cannot be certain.
They are not "silver colored".
Alloys are combinations of metals used for practical and artistic reasons such as durability;
using 100% of any metal might make the product entirely too soft to endure.
The term "sterling" refers to a specific amount of silver in an alloy; specifically
an alloy of silver that is 925 parts pure silver and 75 parts copper, thereby increasing the strength of the silver.
We have no way to determine the specific amount of silver in the alloys used to make these old silver pieces
because there are no marks or hallmarks or stamps on them indicating silver alloy content.
There is a substantial amount of silver content in their alloy,
but exactly how much silver, what percent of the alloy is silver, we honestly can't guess.
CONDITION:
By "antique " we mean over 100 years of age.
By "vintage"we mean over 50 years of age and no older than 100 years of age.
This service is made of matter and it is OLD; it
was made by the firm of Gebrüder Bing of Nürnberg
between the years 1900 and 1906, it is an ANTIQUE set at least 103 years of age, and it is NOT new.
The set is not a recent reproduction and it is not a fake.
All the pieces shown here as part of the set are original to the set.
There are signs of age and usage including but not limited to surface scratches, surface wear,
surface dings, oxidization , minor bending of the metal, vestiges of dirt,
wear to the finishes and surfaces, and probably a few
smudges and fingerprints from our photographers (and our packers), all as
shown in the detailed photos below.
There may also be signs of age and usage
that we missed because we aren't specifically trained to see them.
There are numerous small signs of age and usage to the set in general, including but not limited to the following, specifically:
- The coffee pot spout and part of the base have ancient resoldering.
- The coffee pot has wear to the finish as shown in the detailed photos below.
- Both the sugar and creamer show signs of age and usage, as shown in the detailed photos below..
- We carefully filled each piece in this set with water and couldn't detect any leakage; this means the pieces did not leak when we filled them
with water (H2O). Our experiment IMPLIES that the set will probably hold more viscous liquids,
such as coffee and milk, without leakage. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANYTHING FUNCTIONALLY WRONG WITH THEM,
and we have done our best to assure that this is so (to inform you positively and with certainty and confidence),
however, we repeat, this set is SOLD AS IS.
- We don't know the exact composition of any metal alloys used to make these pieces nor do we know the exact precise age of this set.
The set was made between the years 1900 and 1906 by a firm specializing in tin work,
but we haven't more precise information available to us at this time.
These pieces have not been examined microscopically.
We have not taken them apart or put them back together,
we've not subtracted anything from them nor added anything to them that was not already there when
we got them. We have not cleaned them.
We don't know the exact composition of the metal alloys used to make them;
we aren't metallurgists and cannot be certain.
The condition is generally good overall, there isn't anything functionally wrong
with them, and the condition is exactly as shown in the photos; please look at all the photos carefully
and read this description carefully.
It is impossible to divine exactly what information a buyer
might want. It is the buyer's responsibility to carefully scrutinize a purchase
before buying. We are happy to help in any way we can by answering your questions
to the best of our ability and furnishing additional specifics upon request.
