Along with a truckload of new screens for its forthcoming 'adult' extreme sports sim, Acclaim has issued a full press release answering some of the criticisms being levelled at BMX XXX due to its inclusion of visible woman breasts.

"We believe that there is a general, unfair characterisation of the interactive entertainment industry and as a result, our product is being held to an entirely different standard than other entertainment media with comparable content," said Greg Fischbach, Co-Chairman and CEO of Acclaim.

The key there is "comparable content". Mr Fischbach seems to think that BMX XXX is the gaming equivalent to something like The Godfather or Saving Private Ryan. Comparable content for a game in which topless girls ride BMX bikes around gaily coloured parks would be more akin to anything on Granada Men & Motors hosted by Garry Bushell.


"While we acknowledge that we are setting new benchmarks with BMX XXX," said Fischbach taking PR optimism to entirely new levels, "we are disappointed that there are groups who fail to see how this humorous product is truly on par with such widely accepted mainstream entertainment experiences, like The Sopranos and Sex and the City." Shows in which topless BMX riders feature almost every week of course. This would be humourous in the same sense that Porky's is 'humorous' we assume?.

And as if being banned from leading US suppliers wasn't bad enough, how about being banned from a whole country? Australia has decided to remove the game from its golden shores, just as it did to GTA III earlier in the year. At this rate the only places you'll be able to buy it will be car-boot sales in Peckham and on eBay's collectible antiques section several years from now.
