In the late 1980's Bret Bortner (St. Joseph, Michigan) became increasingly fascinated with the pottery of the Arts & Crafts Movement of a hundred years earlier. After researching the Movement, he designed a collection of seven vases each of which pays tribute to one of the seven Art Potteries he believed to be the most important of the era. The creation of this special line required the development of a pallette of matte glazes true to the colors of the Movement. In addition, he wrote a short history (included with this vase) of the Movement and the seven potteries. The line was introduced in 1991 and is no longer in production or available for sale. I have included an image of all seven vases for reference that I found on his website, www.bretbortnerdesign.com. This beautiful vase is in homage to Artus Van Briggle (1869-1904). The large vase measures approx. 11 inches high and 6 inches wide. It exhibits a matte Plum color glaze. It is marked on the bottom with an impressed "B" and is accompanied by an informational pamphlet. In MINT condition. No cracks, chips, crazing, or repair.
